Description: Encumbrances in Workday are driven by active compensation, not by informational or “expected” HR dates. Certain dates commonly entered in HR (such as expected end dates, contract end dates, or position end dates) do not automatically stop pay or encumbrances. As a result, encumbrances may continue past a date departments expect them to end unless a transaction occurs that explicitly stops compensation (for example, a termination, future‑dated termination, or removal of a compensation plan). This behavior is working as designed in Workday and most often affects temporary, adjunct, and reappointed employees.
