We want to provide an update regarding an encumbrance issue that some users may have noticed affecting employees on academic pay schedules.

A review identified that encumbrances for many employees on academic pay, including employees on 9/12 schedules, are currently encumbering the full year’s salary into July and August rather than being distributed across the full year.

A fix for this issue (creating academic pay periods for the new academic year and adjusting encumbrances) has been implemented in a sandbox environment. A high-level review shows that this successfully resolved the issue, and a more detailed analysis is being conducted to confirm. We expect to implement the fix in production by the end of the week, which will automatically update the encumbrances in KFS.

At this time, teams should be aware that salary encumbrance amounts reflected in July and August for academic pay employees may not accurately represent how encumbrances should be distributed throughout the year.
